A Neuropsychological Study”
Resumo
Objetivo: Verificar se os resultados da avaliação neuropsicológica estão de acordo com a literatura sobre Leucoencefalopatia Megalencefálica com Cistos Subcorticais. Método: Estudo de caso em que foram avaliadas as habilidades cognitivas de uma criança de oito anos de idade com baixo desempenho escolar. Foram aplicadas escalas e testes para avaliar as funções cognitivas e realizadas análises qualitativa e quantitativa dos resultados. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que a dificuldade de aprendizagem é secundária ao quadro cognitivo atual, sugestivo de deficiência intelectual leve. Observou-se melhor desempenho em tarefas verbais e na velocidade de processamento de informações. Conclusão: Devido à raridade da patologia, a discussão deste caso pode contribuir para avanços na compreensão do funcionamento cognitivo.

Abstract
Objective: Verifying whether neuropsychological assessment results are in accordance with the literature on Megalencephalic Leukoencephalopathy with Subcortical Cysts. Method: A case study in which the cognitive abilities of an 8-year-old child with poor school performance were evaluated. Scales and tests were applied to evaluate the cognitive functions and qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results. Results: Results indicated that learning difficulty is secondary to the current cognitive functioning, suggestive of mild intellectual disability. It was observed better performance in verbal tasks and processing speed index. Conclusion: Due to rarity of pathology, the discussion of this case may contribute to advance in understanding of cognitive functioning.
